Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Social Media Intern will build and nurture Bethel University’s online community by interacting with students, alumni, and prospective audiences in real time. This role involves running interactive content like polls, planning engaging campaigns, Q&As, and takeovers, and sourcing user-generated content from students and campus groups. A key focus will be helping to promote a semester-long campaign focused on STEM, Business, ASL, and Education.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in running polls, Q&As, takeovers, and engagement-based Stories (for example, student takeovers to stories).
- Source and pitch UGC (user-generated content) from students and campus clubs.
- Conduct brief student interviews for highlight stories and quotes.
- Help plan and host interactive content like campus shoutouts, giveaways, and mini features
- Develop a semester-long social media campaign focused on promoting our most popular areas of study: STEM, Business, ASL, and Education.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as a college student (preferably in photography, media arts, marketing, communications, or a related field)
- Detail-oriented with good follow-through and ability to work autonomously.
- Global/futuristic thinker who can see the big picture and forecast future goals.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively with the marketing/social media team.
- Ability to be creative, innovative, resourceful, flexible and adaptive to change.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with diverse audiences in person and online.
- Basic understanding of social media trends and engagement strategies.
- Willingness to occasionally attend on-campus events/activities.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of Bethel’s campus culture and student life dynamics
- Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X engagement strategies.
- Friendly and proactive communicator with good writing instincts.
- Comfortable interacting with students, faculty, and guests as needed.
- Experience creating Instagram Stories, Reels, and other social media content.
- Previous experience managing a brand or organization’s social media account.
